Emotional memory in generative characters
Whether LLM-driven characters remember what mattered to them, and whether that is grounded in psychology.
Believability across a whole game depends on memory. The memory machinery commonly used for language-model agents ranks the past by how recent, important, and relevant it is, which leaves out something decades of psychology treat as central: emotion shapes both what gets consolidated and what comes back. We are examining how current systems represent affect, and whether any of them let it influence recall.
