How games are maintained after release

What developer-written patch notes across a whole storefront reveal about post-release maintenance.

Patch notes are a large and mostly unexploited record of how software is maintained in the open: bug fixes, new features, balance changes, written by developers as they go. Prior work has mostly examined a handful of famous titles, which leaves open whether any of it generalises. We are working at platform scale to characterise how maintenance practice varies, and building retrieval tooling on top of the indexed corpus.
